This ambitious new expansion to the University of Oregon campus adds state-of-the-art labs, classrooms, offices, and study spaces focused on fostering creativity and translating scientific research into societal benefits. A sky bridge connects the new building with existing research facilities and serves as a symbolic gateway to the University of Oregon campus.

Pivotal’s lighting design incorporates high-performance illumination of research spaces and a dynamic, light, and transparent aesthetic to reflect the University and design team’s vision. The project’s generous outdoor spaces and site paths are illuminated for visual comfort, maintainability, and usability at night while minimizing stray light to preserve the natural character of the nearby Millrace channel. Color-changing LED illumination of the sky bridge allows the University to create custom looks for special campus events and accentuate the connection to the primary campus.
