Banner University Medical Center
New Hospital Bed Tower

Pivotal provided lighting design services for Banner Health’s new nine-story hospital tower in Tucson, AZ. This cutting-edge healthcare facility’s architectural design focuses on patient comfort, community engagement, and the effective use of natural light. Ambient light sources are carefully integrated between architectural planes for a spacious and clean aesthetic, offering accent illumination for the rich wood and stone surfaces.

Public areas feature warm and comfortable lighting solutions, including in the lobbies, waiting areas, circulation zones, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a servery, and a chapel. Pivotal extended consistent lighting treatments and materials through full-height glass walls to enrich transparency and connection to the natural environment. The building’s nighttime exterior was important when designing the perimeter lighting.

Pivotal coordinated closely with Affiliated Engineers, Inc. to design a flexible, programmable, low-voltage system. This custom lighting system accommodates light level balancing to minimize energy usage and achieve desired visual effects.
